Unlike CWD’s traditional classes, the Manager's Community Forum is a 90-minute facilitated dialogue among managers at Harvard to create a powerful dynamic of sharing, learning, and connection. The purpose of this session is to engage in best practice exchange to overcome challenges in your role and create healthier teams across Harvard. Prior to the session, managers will fill out a short survey that will determine common themes for discussion.

This virtual interactive class will focus on developing foundational coaching skills so that managers can unlock their employees’ potential and have more impact. During each of the three-hour virtual sessions, participants will have opportunities to coach and be coached in a safe environment with manager peers. Participants will practice these foundational coaching skills with their employees between the two virtual sessions.

Managers are invited to learn about and discuss the work of Julie Zhou, Asian American former tech executive and author of The Making of a Manager: What to Do When Everyone Looks to You. Participants convene at the end of the semester for a workshop designed for applying the learned concepts in your role at Harvard. The pre-work for this session includes a look at Zhou's work and relevant topics inspired by her perspective. This series is specifically designed to amplify authors of marginalized identities, lifting the voices and perspectives that represent diverse backgrounds.
This 90-minute virtual session is designed for managers to articulate goals that represent team values and lead to impacting performance outcomes. This session takes particular focus on how to leverage goal-setting and performance outcomes that support dynamic work and flexible work schedules.
In this 90-minute virtual session, we'll consider what it means to be part of new ways of managing careers amidst a changing workplace and dynamic work concepts. Through exercises, discussion, and reflection, you will explore:
1) what where, when and how work is done influences career choice
2) how to showcase your accomplishments regardless of your work arrangement and
3) how to strengths key skills needed to navigate the dynamic work environment.

This 90-minute virtual workshop will explore challenges behind saying “no” and potential risks, impact, and feelings that prevent us from being honest. Learn how to say “yes” to yourself by identifying what is important and work towards a positive, respectful outcome at work or at home. This course is based on the Harvard Negotiation Program co-founder's book: The Power of a Positive No.

What are your strengths when it comes to influence on your team or in your department? What about with your manager? Other stakeholders? In this two-hour session, we will focus on best practices for listening to and understanding your audience (those you want to influence). We all have barriers to our influence; we will practice overcoming those and expanding our sphere of influence.
