Q: What is one of the best parts of your job?
A: My colleagues and getting to work with all the different departments that make up Financial Administration (FAD). My office helps support the 7 groups that make up FAD – as a whole, we are over 250 people! My department is small, but I do a lot of outreach with the other groups. We work with different departments in FAD to provide budget planning and analysis, support communications and initiatives, and provide general financial and administrative support. A fun part of my job is helping organize FAD-wide events like our Town Hall, and fun initiatives like the Career Fitness challenge, which engages people and challenges them to take advantage of Harvard’s amazing training opportunities.

Q: What made you decide to work at Harvard?
A: I was working in a restaurant just out of college and my former manager at the restaurant had moved to Harvard and loved it. He encouraged me to apply for a job in Customer Service in Accounts Payable, which was a part of FAD, and I got the job. I moved on to work with HUIT in Finance and Accounting, but later ended up back in FAD, so things have come full circle. Something I’ve learned in my career is that Harvard is a very large, decentralized organization, but the breadth of networking opportunities and sense of community still continue to amaze me.

Q: What is your favorite benefit or perk of working at Harvard?
A: Being able to be a part of the campus. I love having access to the museums, libraries, the farmer’s market, and commencement. We usually make a big event of commencement; we get pizza and go to watch the speaker and enjoy the event as a staff. I’ve been here for 13 years and I’m still discovering things to take advantage of, there are so many things to do and enjoy here.

Q: What would you say to someone who is thinking about working at Harvard?
A: It’s a great place to work if you like being part of a community, are looking to further your education, or value work-life balance. It really is a great place to work, learn and grow!
