Volunteers

Individuals 18 years of age or older may volunteer their services and donate their time for University activities in keeping with the requirements of the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Such individuals are not considered employees for any purpose. Volunteers are not eligible for University benefits or Workers’ Compensation. Supervisors and managers should consult with their local human resources offices prior to making arrangements for volunteer services to ensure that individuals are appropriately classified as volunteers.

Volunteer status may not be used as a way to avoid or defer compliance with the employment eligibility certification requirements of the Immigration and Control Act of 1986.

Additional information on volunteers may be found at the Office of the General Counsel's frequently asked questions. (Please note, not all readers will be authorized to access this site).
