Susan Rice profile

Q: What originally attracted you to Harvard?
A: I had been working in development for three years when I applied to Harvard, and knew that I wanted to learn from the best. Harvard’s reputation in the development field is second-to-none. As a fundraiser, I was inspired by the mission and the work of the organization as a whole. Harvard touches every corner of the globe, every field, and every area of need.

Q: What are you primary responsibilities in your current role?
A: I’m on the management team of the Harvard College Fund, and I oversee a group of reunion campaign officers who execute the fundraising for various classes each year.

Q: What perk or benefit of working at Harvard do you like best?
A: My favorite benefit is the health care that covers my kids and family. Our health coverage is fantastic, and that’s important to me.

Q: What would you say to someone who is thinking about a job at Harvard?
A: Just do it. At Harvard it feels like we are one huge, extended family. The work here is so inspiring and so energizing. Although the majority of my career has been at Harvard, I’ve had enough experiences elsewhere to know that this level of inspiration is rare.
