Lilac Sunday at the Arnold Arboretum

Of the thousands of flowering plants in the Arboretum, only one, the lilac, is singled out each year for a daylong celebration. With more than 380 lilac plants of 172 kinds, the Arboretum holds one of the premier lilac collections in North America. Tours of the lilacs and other special collections, family activities, and food vendors make for a memorable day.

“Race for the Double Helix" Screening

Women’s History Month is in March so please join the Committee for the Concerns of Women (CCW) for a celebration of Rosalind Franklin, English chemist and X-Ray crystallographer, the unsung heroine of the science that helped reveal the structure of DNA. This documentary drama highlights the tension between different research labs as they strove to be the first to reveal its structure. Doors open at 4:30pm.

Winter Wonderland Bird Walk

Even when most of the natural world is resting, there are dozens of bird species actively making a living. From year-round residents to occasional winter visitors, there is always avian life to observe in the landscape. Join this two-hour walk from the main Arborway Gate to Bussey Hill and back, focusing on winter birds as well as admiring the woody plant collection in winter. Winter Wellness Walk

Great scenery and exercise, who could want more? Take a brisk walk this winter and stay healthy and connected to the Arboretum at a time when the landscape is pared down to its beautiful bones. This walk emphasizes fitness, with a healthy dose of information on seasonal highlights. Winter tours are geared to adults and led by trained Arboretum docents.
