Art Study Center Seminar: Géricault, Printmaking, and Popular Culture

Date:

Friday, October 12, 2018, 11:00am to 12:00pm

Location:

Harvard Art Museums, 32 Quincy Street

In this seminar, Henri Zerner, professor emeritus of the history of art and architecture at Harvard and former curator of prints at the Fogg Museum, and A. Cassandra Albinson, the Margaret S. Winthrop Curator of European Art in the museums’ Division of European and American Art, will discuss prints by Théodore Géricault. They’ll demonstrate how his work relates to popular imagery from the Restoration period by examining the artist’s prints alongside works by more commercial printmakers, such as Nicolas-Toussaint Charlet and Carle Vernet.

Offered in conjunction with the exhibition Mutiny: Works by Géricault (September 1, 2018–January 6, 2019), the seminar will focus on works on display, as well as those not on public view.

The seminar will take place in the Art Study Center, Level 4.

Free admission, but registration is required. Registration for this seminar will open on Friday, September 21, 2018, and participants will be admitted on a first-come, first-served basis. To register, please email am_register@harvard.edu.

Please arrive 15 minutes before the start of the program to allow sufficient time to sign in at the Art Study Center reception desk, and be prepared to present a photo ID.
