Building Anti-Racist Skills Through Mindful Listening (2 week course)

Date:

Tuesday, October 11, 2022, 2:00pm to 4:00pm

Repeats every week every Tuesday until Tue Oct 18 2022

Location:

Online

This two-part course will teach participants to use the skills of mindful listening as a foundation for more productive conversations around race and social justice. The presenters will guide the participants through different scenarios in large and small group settings, demonstrating how “everyday” listening differs from mindful listening, so that participants understand how and when mindful listening should be chosen as the right conversational tool. Through practice, participants will gain confidence in using the mode of mindful listening to formulate responses that promote trust; drive a conversation forward; and finally, allow the listener to express their own viewpoints in a meaningful way.

The presenters want to make sure every participant feels at ease and welcome in their space of teaching and learning. To facilitate this goal, participation in this course is limited to 25 individuals, and all attendees must commit to attending both sessions. Additionally, while no participant will be forced to use their web-cam, all participants will be strongly encouraged to do so, to support creating a community feel.
