How to Start a Startup: Entrepreneurship in the Life Sciences and Healthcare

Date:

Wednesday, February 6, 2019, 5:30pm to 6:30pm

Location:

TMEC 209 Mini Amphitheater

This introductory talk will provide an overview of startup companies in the life sciences and healthcare domain, and touch on foundational concepts most important for early-stage founders to understand and address. Topics to be covered include: idea generation and evaluation, team formation, prototypes and PoCs, intellectual property considerations, technology commercialization, regulatory strategy, fund raising, and corporate structure. The significance of customers and stakeholders in the healthcare space will be discussed, as well as the importance of identifying unmet clinical needs. Additionally, as many life science startups are borne out of research labs, the translation of technology from the bench to bedside will be considered from a researcher’s point of view.
