Food is much more to us than just nourishment. When we go to the market and purchase unintended groceries, look in our refrigerators for a snack to meet an emotional need, or miss the taste of a special meal because of distracting thoughts, we are not acting mindfully while eating. These all-too-common experiences happen to us when we feel distanced from our bodies, our thoughts, and our emotions. Participants in the introductory “Mindful Eating” course will have learned to become more aware of when we are truly hungry when we are not, and to better appreciate all aspects of our relationship with food. The Mindful Eating 2.0 session will delve further into how a consistent practice of mindfulness can help us manage the unconscious, reactive habits that build up around food.

Please note: dried apricots are used during the mindful eating exercise.  Participants with food allergies should contact the Office of Work/Life before attending this session.
