Monthly Mindfulness and Compassion Lecture Series: Overcoming Shame and Inadequacy

Date:

Monday, September 17, 2018, 6:30pm to 8:30pm

Location:

CHA Center for Mindfulness and Compassion, 26 Central St, 2nd floor, Somerville, MA 02143

This lecture will address practical ways to be less judgmental of ourselves, to navigate failure, rejection, and trauma, and to shift from competitive concerns toward activating the mammalian tend-and-befriend system instead—leading to greater psychological freedom and comfort with vulnerability.

At the end of this event, participants will be able to:

1. Specify how mindfulness-based insights into the nature of the “self” and causes of suffering can enrich and enliven any psychotherapy.

2. Describe ways to move beyond evolutionarily hard-wired concerns with self-esteem and personal comfort to respond to trauma and other difficult life circumstances with a more open heart and greater psychological freedom.

3. Indicate how mindfulness and compassion practices can be adapted to create the experience of secure attachment for people who lacked this as children.

Fees:

Suggested donation for general attendance is $15. CE credits are available for a fee of $30.
