Location:

Harvard Art Museums, 32 Quincy Street

Join us to celebrate the opening of Crossing Lines, Constructing Home: Displacement and Belonging in Contemporary Art, on view September 6, 2019 through January 5, 2020.

In light of contemporary global crises, how are curators today working in new ways to integrate historical contexts, make connections between artistic practice and subject matter, and foster dialogue with audiences? Curators Makeda Best and Mary Schneider Enriquez will discuss the complexities of curating exhibitions centered on global displacement with Ugochukwu-Smooth Nzewi, the Steven and Lisa Tananbaum Curator in the Department of Painting and Sculpture at the Museum of Modern Art, New York, and Jessica Hong, Associate Curator of Global Contemporary Art at the Hood Museum of Art, at Dartmouth College.

The opening celebration is free and open to the public. All galleries will remain open from 5 to 9pm. Guests are invited to view the exhibition on Level 3, to visit the collections galleries, and to enjoy a festive reception in the Calderwood Courtyard following the lecture.

The lecture will take place at 6pm, in Menschel Hall, Lower Level. Please enter the museums via the entrance on Broadway; seating for the lecture will begin at 5:15pm.

Tickets to the lecture are required. Tickets may be acquired in person, by phone, or online for a small fee through the Harvard Box Office, beginning at noon on Tuesday, August 27. Limit of two tickets per person. For more information, please visit the Harvard Box Office website
