Real-World Negotiations and the Power of Story

A PON Book Series event with: Joshua Weiss, Ph.D., Program Director, Bay Path University’s Master of Science in Leadership and Negotiation; Senior Fellow, Harvard Negotiation Project; Co-founder, Global Negotiation Initiative; Co-founder and Chair, Abraham Path Initiative

Dr. Joshua Weiss’ new book, The Book of Real-World Negotiations: Successful Strategies from Business, Government and Daily Life, is filled with real world negotiation cases to learn from. Weiss takes the reader into the negotiation room as a fly on the wall and draws out some important lessons from these situations. What is surprising about these disparate cases, is the similarities between them and the common threads that are woven throughout despite many different contexts. Furthermore, the book highlights the importance of story in negotiation and how negotiators can utilize stories in a myriad of ways.

In this talk Weiss will share some of the cases from the book and their practical lessons. He will then specifically discuss how stories can be used to persuade others, help shift a negotiation from competition to cooperation, and serve as a tool during difficult moments in the negotiation process.
