Small Mammal Bust Taxidermy

Sunday, September 16, 2018, 1:30pm to 4:30pm

Harvard Museum of Natural History, 26 Oxford Street

Learn traditional taxidermy by mounting the head and shoulders of a small game animal on a plaque to hang on your wall. Students will prepare a commercially-made form and set the eyes, ears, and mouth of a tanned hide in anatomically correct positions, then attach the bust to an unfinished wooden plaque. Choices will include raccoons and skunks, with potential for foxes and badgers if any become available. All specimens are sustainably sourced from Indiana, where pest animals legally must be euthanized and cannot be re-released into the wild. Open to adults 18 and over.
