With bark that exfoliates in cinnamon and gold curls, paperbark maple (Acer griseum) is a stunning Chinese temperate species. Over the past century it has become a prized garden specimen in many private and public North American gardens. Endangered in its native range, this species has been a collection target for conservation by the North America-China Plant Exploration Consortium. Low seed viability, however, makes conservation a long-term challenge. Arboretum staff members will gather online to share their knowledge and expertise in collection, propagation, and cultivation of this species in the framework of its history and introduction to North America by plant explorer E.H. Wilson and the Arnold Arboretum.
