Is it possible to edit or add documents to a previously submitted application?

Unfortunately, there is no way to change a completed and submitted application. We encourage all candidates to review their materials carefully before submitting their resume and cover letter.

Please note that you cannot withdraw a previously submitted application in order to make edits or changes to your resume or cover letter.

What does "Strong Internal Candidate" mean on a job posting?

At Harvard we value internal mobility. We list "Strong Internal Candidate" on a job when we have an internal candidate in consideration prior to the job being posted. We still encourage candidates to apply for a position with this listed.

Does Harvard provide H-1B sponsorship for administrative/staff positions?

Harvard normally does not provide H-1B visa sponsorship for administrative/staff positions. We would only do so in the rare instance where a position requires highly specialized skills and the University has been unable to find qualified U.S. workers with those skills. Please note that attorneys representing individuals are not authorized to file H-1B petitions on behalf of the University.

To learn more about this and other visa types, please visit the website of the Harvard International Office.

How often is the Harvard Careers system updated?

Jobs are added and removed every day, throughout the day. Job listings remain on Harvard Careers until the position is filled or the requisition is closed. If you can view a job listing, the hiring department is still accepting applicants. When searching for jobs, sort by the Date Updated field to find the most recently posted positions.

What are basic qualifications and what role do they play in the hiring process at Harvard?

Basic qualifications are the minimum qualifications that a candidate must possess in order to be initially considered for the position. When applying to a position at Harvard, be sure to clearly describe, through your cover letter and resume, how you meet the basic qualifications for the specific position. Applicants who do not demonstrate that they meet the basic qualifications for a position cannot be considered for that role.

We encourage all applicants to carefully review each position and job description prior to submitting an application.

What type of contact information should I provide?

The Harvard Careers system allows you to create a profile that includes your address, email, phone number, and password. Please be aware when submitting contact information such as your current work phone number or email address that it may be used for automated email communications or for interview follow-up.
