Following the end of World War II, a movement known as “art informel” spread throughout Europe. The movement abandoned geometric abstraction in favor of a more intuitive form of expression, similar to action painting in the United States. Jackson, Distinguished Visiting Professor of World Religions at Harvard Divinity School, got to know Paddy Nelson Jupurrula, one of the pre-eminent Warlpiri artists of the Western Desert painting movement.
