Exploring Science Together: Dinosaurs!

Come dig deeper and explore the fossil world of the dinosaurs! Discover what makes a dinosaur a dinosaur, and participate in a “fossil dig” with real dinosaur fossils. Explore our amazing collection of vertebrate paleontology with fun gallery activities. Compare dinosaurs to live modern animals and learn how paleontologists know what a dino’s daily life was like. Learn about dinosaur trackways and even create your own to bring home! All activities are designed to be a fun and interactive experience for students grades K – 5 to learn with their families.

Squirrel Taxidermy Workshop

Harvard Museum of Natural History, 26 Oxford Street

Make your very own taxidermy squirrel using professional techniques, with no experience necessary! Starting with a sustainably sourced hide, students will learn how to use a commercially-made head form and a custom-wrapped body to create a beautiful mount. Students will choose from a variety of wood bases to create the finished product. Each student will leave with a finished squirrel ready for a two-week drying period, after which it can be proudly displayed. A photographic guide to the skinning process will be provided to all students.
