New Dental Plan Carrier

For 2023, Harvard’s dental plan will move to a new carrier, MetLife, which will replace Delta Dental of Massachusetts. If you’re currently enrolled in the dental plan, you will automatically be moved to the MetLife plan. You don’t need to take any action unless you want to make a change. Visit the MetLife Dental website for plan details, network provider search, FAQs, and more. You can find additional FAQs here.

Please note that in order to have this coverage, you must have enrolled at the time you retired, or when you first enrolled in retiree medical coverage. You cannot elect the Retiree Dental Plan during Open Enrollment unless you are enrolling in retiree medical coverage for the first time. This vendor change also applies to the closed HURA Dental Plan.

Medical Plan Changes

Reduced Copayment for Some Telehealth Visits
Effective January 1, 2023, telehealth copayments will be reduced to $15 under the Harvard-sponsored BCBS or HUGHP HMO, POS, POS Plus, PPO, or PPO Plus medical plan for all services (behavioral health and medical) via Well Connection, and behavioral health services via a non-Well Connection telehealth provider.

Due to federal regulations, this change does not apply to the BCBSMA HDHP.

Salary Tiers Will Be Adjusted Upwards for Retired SEIU Custodian and ATC Members
Salary tier amounts for tiers 1, 2, and 3 for medical premiums are being adjusted upward by $5,000 effective January 1, 2023 for retired SEIU Custodian and ATC union members under age 65.

Tiers will be adjusted as follows:

  • Tier 1: Changing from less than $55,000 to less than $60,000
  • Tier 2: Changing from $55,000-$74,999 to $60,000-$79,999
  • Tier 3: Changing from $75,000-$99,999 to $80,000-$99,999
  • There is no change to tier 4, which remains $100,00 and above.
