How Harvard Supports Our Service Members

  • Leave and Reemployment: Harvard grants leaves of absence for active duty and ensures job protection for reservists and National Guard members, offering reemployment rights upon return.
  • Salary Support: Harvard pays the difference between your base military pay and your Harvard salary for up to 90 days of service per year.
  • Continued Benefits: Medical, dental, disability, life insurance, and retirement benefits continue during military leave, with restored contributions and service upon return.
  • Military-Specific Resources: Active military members, veterans, and families can access additional support through Harvard’s various schools and departments.

Individual Support 

The challenges of military service can be profound. Harvard’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP) offers tailored support for employees and their families dealing with military-related issues, including:

  • Counseling for deployment-related stress and family challenges
  • Guidance for families with children considering military careers
  • Assistance with housing, family resiliency, and bereavement
  • Support during a spouse's deployment 
  • Support for returning military members
