Dynamic Work

Dynamic Work refers to the range of options for when and where work can happen at Harvard. Harvard is committed to discovering and implementing new ways to show staff that they matter, make space for their lives outside of work, and support their growth and development. By embracing strategic flexibility, we support the well-being of our staff, increasing engagement and commitment to advance our mission.

While strategic flexibility is applied differently across the institution, administrative and academic leaders have articulated a shared vision for Dynamic Work to promote alignment across the institution. The Guiding Principles of Dynamic Work acknowledge the evolving nature of our workplace, encourage practices for intentional convening, focus on performance outcomes over facetime, and promote equity, well-being, and flexibility.

During this evolving time, work has fundamentally changed for everyone, and has highlighted the need to learn and develop skills by all staff, managers, and leaders alike. The Center for Workplace Development has also designed courses specifically to address this need with a six-part, self-paced video series: Dynamic Work Microlearning Series (HarvardKey required).  While designed for leaders, these foundational sessions are accessible and essential for all Harvard employees to work more effectively in the current work environment. Each session is about ten minutes of concentrated content with tips and recommendations. Please refer to the Dynamic Work Microlearning Tip Sheet as an additional resource.
