The 2018 Harvard Heroes awards ceremony, hosted by President Drew G. Faust, will be held:

Thursday, June 14, 3:30 p.m.
Memorial Hall, Sanders Theatre
Reception to follow at Annenberg Hall (next to Sanders Theatre)

All employees are invited and no tickets are needed.

What is Harvard Heroes?

Harvard staff members contribute vitally to Harvard’s excellence. Staff contributions include building and maintaining a vast infrastructure (technical, financial, physical and human) upon which the academic enterprise relies.

Harvard Heroes is an annual program held each spring to celebrate high-performing staff from across every School and the Central Administration with both local and University-wide recognition. These staff members are nominated and/or selected by their peers and departments for their leadership, teamwork, adaptability, innovation and exceptional contributions. (For more information about Harvard Heroes, see the Fact Sheet.)

All employees are invited to attend the awards ceremony and reception, but first we need your help to identify the Heroes among us!

Nominations Are Open February 20 to March 9

Being named a Harvard Hero is an honor of great distinction – only about 60 Heroes, or ½ of 1% of eligible staff, will be named. We need your help to make sure we find and recognize the staff Heroes at Harvard. Please review the 10 nomination criteria and nominate your Harvard Hero during the nomination period of February 20 to March 9. The program welcomes nominations by one person as well as joint nominations submitted by more than one co-worker. (A strong nomination produced collaboratively between nominators will be given more weight than the number of nominations a potential honoree receives.)

To be eligible to be nominated, staff must be an administrative/professional, support or hourly employees with at least one year of “benefits-eligible” service. Harvard coaches in the “other academic” group are also eligible. Please note that Harvard Heroes recognizes outstanding individuals, not teams. HR staff directly involved in management of the Harvard Heroes program, and HR managers to whom they directly or indirectly report, are not eligible to be recognized. Harvard Heroes does not provide posthumous recognition.

The nomination process varies by school/unit. Refer to the chart below or contact your local Heroes coordinator to learn about the process in your area. (See Fact Sheet for more information.)

Congratulations to the 60 outstanding Harvard staff members from across the University who were selected as Harvard Heroes for 2017. They were celebrated for their extraordinary and inspiring contributions to the University and its mission at an awards ceremony, hosted by President Drew Faust on June 5, 2017, attended by a full house of family, friends and colleagues. You’ve invited to view the photos of the 2017 ceremony and reception and the videos, "Why Are They Our Harvard Heroes?" and “The Harvard Heroes Questionnaire.” Read more about the Ceremony and some of this year's Heroes in the Harvard Gazette.
