Harvard Heroes 2020
It is with a heavy heart that the Harvard Heroes Committee decided to cancel the 2020 Harvard Heroes Ceremony and Reception. Given the ongoing COVID-19 emergency, we must ensure the health and safety of our staff. It is especially difficult in light of the heroic and inspirational work demonstrated by employees at all levels of the University to respond to the crisis. Later this year, we hope to reevaluate how to move forward with the program.

What is Harvard Heroes?
Harvard Heroes, the premier University-wide employee recognition program, celebrates the accomplishments of staff whose work supports the mission of Harvard at the highest levels of contribution, impact and excellence.
Harvard staff members contribute vitally to Harvard’s excellence. Staff contributions include building and maintaining a vast infrastructure (technical, financial, physical and human) upon which the academic enterprise relies.
Harvard Heroes is an annual program held each spring to celebrate high-performing staff from across every School and the Central Administration with both local and University-wide recognition. These staff members are nominated and/or selected by their peers and departments for their leadership, teamwork, adaptability, innovation and exceptional contributions.
Being named a Harvard Hero is an honor of high distinction – only about 60 Heroes, or ½ of 1% of eligible staff, will be named, with selection based on 11 important criteria.
2019 Harvard Heroes
Congratulations to the 61 outstanding Harvard staff members who were recognized as the 2019 Harvard Heroes. They were celebrated for their contributions at an awards ceremony hosted by President Lawrence S. Bacow on June 13, 2019 at Sander Theatre. You can view photos from the day, fun photos from the Harvard Heroes photo booth, and the inspiring videos from the Ceremony, featuring the 2019 Harvard Heroes: What Makes a Hero and Harvard Heroes: Driven by Mission, Passion and Making a Difference.
