In order to be considered as a candidate at Harvard, you must apply on Harvard Careers.
To learn more about the site, we invite all candidates to watch an interactive video detailing the application process.
You should use the "forget your username or password" option on the front page of Harvard Careers. We recommend candidates set their security questions carefully, utilizing question/answer combinations they can easily reference later. Note: please be sure to disable any autofill settings or password manager applications, especially if you recently changed your password. You can reset your security questions upon re-entering your account under your Dashboard.
If you are unable to unlock your account using your security questions, please email ithelp@harvard.edu.
At Harvard we value internal mobility. We list "Strong Internal Candidate" on a job when we have an internal candidate in consideration prior to the job being posted. We still encourage candidates to apply for a position with this listed.
Jobs are added and removed every day, throughout the day. Job listings remain on Harvard Careers until the position is filled or the requisition is closed. If you can view a job listing, the hiring department is still accepting applicants. When searching for jobs, sort by the Date Updated field to find the most recently posted positions.
You can check the status of your application(s) at any time, directly, by logging in and visiting the “Dashboard” section of your candidate gateway in Harvard Careers.
Please understand that the resume review process takes time due to the high volume of resumes that we receive. If your candidacy is declined because you do not meet the basic qualifications for the job, or your qualifications are not as strong as other candidates in the hiring pool, you will be informed via an automated notification from the Harvard Careers system. Please note that we are unable to respond to requests for updates on current or pending applications.
The following are some troubleshooting tips for successfully uploading documentation to your application in Harvard Careers:
Harvard has a limit of 25 applications within a 30-day rolling period. If you try and apply to a 26th job within 30 days, you will receive an error message.
We encourage all applicants to carefully review each position and job description prior to submitting an application.
Unfortunately, there is no way to change a completed and submitted application. We encourage all candidates to review their materials carefully before submitting their resume and cover letter.
Please note that you cannot withdraw a previously submitted application in order to make edits or changes to your resume or cover letter.
No, you must apply online through Harvard Careers to be considered a candidate for employment.
Basic qualifications are the minimum qualifications that a candidate must possess in order to be initially considered for the position. When applying to a position at Harvard, be sure to clearly describe, through your cover letter and resume, how you meet the basic qualifications for the specific position. Applicants who do not demonstrate that they meet the basic qualifications for a position cannot be considered for that role.
We encourage all applicants to carefully review each position and job description prior to submitting an application.
The Harvard Careers system allows you to create a profile that includes your address, email, phone number, and password. Please be aware when submitting contact information such as your current work phone number or email address that it may be used for automated email communications or for interview follow-up.
After completing the online application process, you will receive a confirmation email from the Harvard Careers system. Additionally, when you check your Job Submission Status on Harvard Careers, it will be marked “Application Received.”
When you apply online, your resume and cover letter are instantly available to Human Resources. On average, the hiring process – from resume review to interviews and reference checks to final offer – takes around four to eight weeks.

Summer positions are rare, and are usually offered first to current, seasonally employed staff. Internships are not posted as job openings and are generally arranged through local colleges and universities.

Harvard normally does not provide H-1B visa sponsorship for administrative/staff positions. We would only do so in the rare instance where a position requires highly specialized skills and the University has been unable to find qualified U.S. workers with those skills. Please note that attorneys representing individuals are not authorized to file H-1B petitions on behalf of the University.
To learn more about this and other visa types, please visit the website of the Harvard International Office.
