A Look Inside CWD: Bill's Story
When the Center for Nanoscale Systems wanted to create a clear vision for the lab, and even clearer career paths for staff scientists, the Center enlisted the organizational consulting team at CWD. Fueled by Executive Director Bill Wilson’s desire to implement a sustainable strategic vision, and to give staff a voice on the process and in their own career growth, Bill and CWD built a strategic planning, team-building and organization review process to move the Center forward.
Working with a CWD consultant, the Center for Nanoscale Systems’ organizational development program included a retreat for staff with a series of tracks custom-built to allow staff to open up about issues and concerns, and for Bill to set his expectations as leader of the Center. As with most strategic planning, the process is typically in a constant state of evolution, but even early results show the power of such a process. “Response has been irrationally positive,” said Bill. “It has given a voice to many issues that no one would have shared previously, and we are on the path to becoming a more powerful, meaningful organization.”
