In this session, artist Fernando Bryce will discuss his practice with Mary Schneider Enriquez, the Houghton Associate Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art. Drawing History and the Image as Memory

In this evening’s lecture, artist Fernando Bryce will describe his artistic practice as it pertains to some of his works, including his multipart installation The Book of Needs, currently on view in the University Research Gallery. He will begin by detailing the process and methodology of his art, focusing on the conceptual frame and field of interest in which his work moves. He will then offer some examples of his projects, using each to explain different aspects of his practice.

This evening’s performance is centered on Johann Sebastian Bach’s cantata Weinen, Klagen, Sorgen, Zagen(Weeping, Lamenting, Worrying, Fearing; BWV 12), which originally premiered on the third Sunday after Easter in 1714. The program begins with a performance of the astounding opening chorus of Bach’s St. John Passion, Herr, unser Herrscher (Lord, Our Ruler).
