Basics of Accounting

Topics include user roles; setting preferences; running and exporting reports; taking advantage of drill-down capabilities; entering budget data, comments, and supporting detail; running calculations (known as business rules); copying working budgets into drafts; and validating Chart of Accounts combinations before budget submission.

This course provides hands-on training on shopping for office and lab supplies in the HCOM Marketplace, creating purchase orders for contractors and consultants, paying invoices and honorariums, and processing reimbursements to students and non-employees. Participants must have login access to HCOM at least one week prior to attending this course and must have their HarvardKey and Duo access with them in order to participate in the class exercises. It is recommended that participants take the Chart of Accounts class and the online HCOM class prior to attending this course.
